Bathroom tile

I want tile the balthroom walls around the tub and shower. There's fake tile board on the walls already. Is this going to come off easily or will it wreck the drywall underneath. It looks like its beed glued to the drywall. Can I tile right on the drywall?

Cut and pull all the drywall out. Replace with Hardie-backer board with a visqueen plastic moisture barrier behind it. Set your tiles on the cement tile backer board. http://www.hardibacker.com/hardibackerinstall.htm

You don't want gypsum drywall in a moisture prone area like a tub surround. Sounds like they may have used vinyl flooring as a tub surround!
