Travertine Marble Countertops

I just had a travertine countertop installed. 12X12 tiles and it is a bit uneven. The plumber said the tile guy should have had a sub counter, chicken wire, then the morter and then the pieces of travertine. My tile guy just laid the pieces right on top of the wood countertop with some sort of thinset morter. What is the proper method for installation???

It could have been installed a number of ways...but if it's un-even, then it wasn't installed very matter what way it was done.

right, but how should I ask him to re-do it? Is there a best practices process?

Hi Julie,

We usually recommend a backer board over the plywood, but that won't help if the guy can't get the pieces in straight and level. I hope this in a bath and not a kitchen.
