ceramic tile over vinyl

can I lay ceramic tile over existing vinyl tile in a first floor bath. There is concrete under the vinyl. If so , do I have to do anything special to the surface of the vinyl before putting my thinset on?

Other then the vinyl being a cushion and can add some movement causing grout to crack out sooner then it certainly should. It makes the ceramic tile and installation NOT waterproof! If water damage happens and the water gets under the vinyl, guess what happens to the water base vinyl glue??

What happens to the tiles when the surface under wants to curl around the perimeter, over a period of time from plasticizer releasing from the vinyl.

If your on a budget or can't find the muscle to remove the vinyl yourself, then decide to go over it. Don't complain if it starts to fail.
