Can I lay tile over tile

I have a long retangular bathroom. The floor, 3 walls, double sink vanity, 5x3x3 shower and area around sunken jucuzzi are all 1x1 inch chocolate tile w/brown grout. Dark and yucky!! The house was built in late 70's. Can I lay larger tile or 1/4in. thick cultured marble slabs directly overtop or do I have to remove all the tile first. The orginal tile is still very tight to all surfaces and no cracking in the grout has occured yet.

Ceramic tile--YES.

I'd stay away from the marble since marble requires twice the strength in the floor structure that ceramic does and you're not in a position to beef-up your floor for marble if you're not removing the existing tile.

Go for it!
