Question Old Tile Removal

Any tips on removing 2X2 ceramic tile set with thinset from 3/4 in. plywood? Will heat help or just a hammer and 3 1/2" cold chesel is the answer?

Thanks,
Mitchell

Hi
Heat won't do anything to the thin set.....your best bet would be a heavy scraper(once you get a section started). Now the thin set is a different story...no fun at all to remove off of plywood.

Some times you will have to remove the plywood too, if the thinset is very well bonded. What type of product do you intent to install next ? More information is better..........

Remove Old Tile

12X12 Daltile and from what I have read here, probable should put down a 1/4" underboard to adhere the new tile to........

Thanks,
Mitchell

You could skim coat over the old thinset with new thinset and a flat trowell to smooth it over.
