what size notch for marble?

What size notches should my trowel have for laying a smooth- backed marble tile? Also, I own a small wet-saw (MK-370) which I have used to cut ceramic in the past. Will this saw cut marble (3/8 " thick) or do I need a special saw for marble?

1/4x1/4 is fine. the bigger the saw the better, more rpm's. take your time cutting the more veins the marble has the harder it is to work with.

#1 what size is the marble tile ?

1/4 x 1/4 for 6 x 6

1/4 x 3/8 for 12 x 12

1/2 x 1/2 for 16 x 16

3/4 x 3/4 for larger tiles

#2 How flat is your floor ? Most people install marble tiles with minimum grout joints-- Your floor has to be FLAT in order to do that.

#3 They make special thinset mortars for large tiles. Suggest you use only a latex modified thinset mortar unless it is green or black and then use an epoxy tile adhesive to prevent warping.

#4 Be sure to wash the backs of the marble tiles-- they will most likely have dust on them from the grinding and polishing process.

Any wet saw that will cut ceramic tiles will also cut marble because it is softer than ceramic tile. Granite sometimes requires a better blade like you would use for porcelain tiles. They last longer 'cauz they have more diamonds.
