Tile over existing concrete

I am installing saltillo tile over an existing concrete patio. This will be my first tile installation. The patio has a crack and poor drainage over one area. Can I use conventional concrete to refloat the patio, or is there a special treatment that I must use? I live in Houston, where it rarely freezes. Do you have a favorite book for out-door tile installation?

The crack is a problem.

sand topping mix will allow a thinner float than concrete, where the small stones will be a problem.

Whats your over all drainage? you should have 1/4 inch per foot.
is your part were it doesn't drain due to dips in the concrete?
your cracks will have to be covered with a crack isolation membrane. Also how cold can it get there in Houston?

Tile over existing concrete

My patio is 8X22. I am not sure what my overall drainage is, but I can tell you there is a 3X3 shallow puddle that develops next to the drain when it rains. This past winter it dipped below 32 degrees only twice. It was back up into the 50's the next day. It is very tropical here. Thanks for the advice.
