marble tiles

Hi, I wonder if any one could help? I want to remove the carpet in the living room anf replace it by marble tiles. It's quite expensive and need to do it myself. I was told I was to apply a layer of sand on top of the existing tiles ...and then what with what should I fix the tiles?
I'm new at repairing and do it yourself , but love to do things and want of course a good job done!
I hope some one can help and thanks!

If you have a tile floor now ,and it is free of wax, dirt, sealers, cracks, ect, you can set Marble over it with a latex mod. thin set. Details are available from the Tile Council of America or most manf. of thin set. If you have specific questions we will do our best to answer them.
