Question Removing Tile Adhesive from Plaster Walls

I have 1 inch thk. plaster walls with 1/2 inch Mosaic tile on the wall over the counters. I want to remove the old tile and replace it. I can remove the tile by carefully prying it off with a stiff putty knife and hammer. But this method leaves most of the old adhesive stuck to the wall. How can I remove this adhesive and prepare the wall for the new tile without damaging the plaster?

Welcome to the forum.

Very likely the best method to remove the adhesive from the plaster wall will be to scrape and sand it off. A two - handed paint scraper will give you leverage and control.

Hope this helps.
