how to remove thinset from concrete?

I'm currently removing all the tile in my entry way and kitchen and replacing it w/ hardwood laminate. I'm able to get the ceramic tile up okay w/ an old wood chisle and hammer, but the thinset is clinging for life to the concrete subfloor. Does anyone has any good ways of getting thinset off of concrete that would save time and broken fingers?

Laying ceramic on top of peel and stick tiles

I have a townhouse with a entrance way thats 11x6 feet. The flooring is currently peel and stick tiles. The peel and stick tiles are stuck on to the concrete flooring. These tiles are in perfect shape and stuck on VERY well. I was wondering if I should try to remove them and fight all of the adhesive glue or should I simply sand the tiles to make them rough and then tile right on top of them. Can someone help? Minimum thickness cement backer board?

What is the minimum thickness backerboard that ceramic tile can be applied to? I am about to undertake a flooring replacement in a 430 sq. ft. kitchen and dining area. I will be removing linolieum and replacing with ceramic. The sub-floor (two ply) is adequate for the project but I am wondering if I can apply the tile to the subfloor WITHOUT a backer board. The floor height of the kitchen and dining area is already slightly ("Slightly = 5/8") above (higher than) the adjoining other rooms.
