Question Removing Granite for Ceramic Tile

HELP. My Husband Doesn't Believe I can Do it. I want to remove the granite around my fireplace as well as the floor in front of the fireplace and replace it with decorative ceramic tile as well as saltillo tile. What is the best way to remove the granite from the fireplace wall and the granite on the floor. Once I remove it can I just put the thin set and the tile? Do you recommend a book, or anything else to guide me. Thanks a million. I need to prove my husband wrong.

Wow, I'm not going to help you prove your husband wrong. How big and mean is he?

Are you talking about removing granite tiles or slab granite? Is the face of the fireplace brick, concrete/plaster or sheetrock?

Have you thought about putting the tiles over the granite?
