breaking up is easy to do but...

I'm going to replace an 8x6' tiled area by my front door. My impression is that my trusty hammer will make short work of the existing tiles.

After breaking out the tiles, will I be left with a moonscape of adhesive and grout? How much of a grind (no pun intended) will it be to prepare the floor to lay new tiles? A little chiseling, power grinding...? Thanks.

Nothing a little chiseling can't handle. Don't forget the safety glasses!! That tile will shatter splinter and fly. You only get two eyeballs.
