Question Laying tile over tile??

Hi,, All help appreciated!
I am planning on retiling a kitchen. Currently the floor has 8" tiles and my wife wants to cover with 13" (don't ask me why ) Is this a good idea? Any special things I need to consider? I have tiled floors before.... but never over tile.

Thanks in advance for any advice

as long as the tile you are going over is sound and free of any signs of failure[grout cracking ,tile popping ]then you can go ahead, make sure the tile is clean of all dirt and or wax and ude a mortar that is rated for going over tile go to a flooring supply and ask them what they have for going over tile. Also check to see if there will be any problems with heighth, refrigerator under cabinet ,etc. before tiling,it may cause a problem at doorways also with the transition from carpet to tile cause you'll have to build thet up to the tile to make a smooth transition

Question Thanks Floorman

The tile floor underneath is in good shape. The tiles underneath are slightly textured and I was wondering if that would cause some unevenness? But I assume if I trowel the mortar on thick enough this will act a "leveler" after pressing each tile in place with a board spanning several tiles. What do you think?
Thanks again

if yo are unsure of the flatness then use a 1/2 notch trowel ,also if the tile are over 16" you want to use a 1/2 notch any way
