Ceramic Tile over Terrazzo

I plan on installing ceramic tile in my bedroom, after pulling up the ugly existing carpet we discovered terrazzo underneath. Can I lay the ceramic tile directly over the terrazzo or does there need to be some type of sub floor and if so what is the best type of sub floor to use?

You can go over it provided there are no cracks. If there are cracks you will need a crack isolation membrane like Ditra. Available from:

Thanks, this is very helpful. The floor is in excellent condition so I don't think I need the membrane but what would I use to scarify the floor?

Terrazzo can be beautiful sure you want to cover it? Another option would be to bond Nobleseal to the substrate with Noblebond 21 which does not require the Terrazzo to be scarfied but it does need to be free of wax, dirt ect. www.noblecompany.com waterproofing, crack,& sound isolation
