It's a relatively easy process when you do a few simple things first:
- Make dams along the walls and doorways (and any other areas) where the self-levelling cement may seep out of where you want it to stay. Silicone or foam backer rod work well for doing this.
- Once the primer is ready, have more than you need of water and SLC at hand. The process goes very quickly and you don't want to have to slow down or stop to run to the store to get more.
- Mix one full bag at a time... don't mix half a bag, then mix the other half later. Have a plastic pail with a line around it so you know exactly how much water to add to one bag. One mixed pail will be heavy (~65 pounds).
- Start at the lowest point of the room and work to the higher point. When you're done, feather out the areas near the doorways to make it easier to lay tile on and transition to other areas.
