tile right over levelling compound?

tile right over levelling compound?

can ya?...... I need to level an uneven floor prior to tiling....will be using some levelling compund of some sort. I have been told by one person that i can skip the backerboard and apply the tile right to the leveled floor with thin set...
any opinions>?

Depending what it is made from YES, you can tile directly to it.In some cases you want a crack isolation membrane.Is it Gypsum based??

Is the leveler going over wood or concrete?

dunno if it is gypsum based as I haven't actually picked it yet, and yes it is going over wood.

....also read in an earlier post that I shouldnot use the cement board on top of the levelling compound, but the other way round if I am going to use both.... the plot thickens and i become more confused!

Why not just POUR it thicker so you dont need the cement board at all?
