replacing shower threshhold

Hi all, need your help again!
I am replacing marble threshold /doorway in my mother's shower. the marble looks like carrera blanco (discolered) , never matched her brown, bronze, gold bathroom. Plus the only thing holding the current threshold in place is gravity and
God's good wishes. You can look between the marble and the tiles and see the back wall of the shower!
I have 4 pieces of Madurai Gold granite (#2) 6"W x 72"L. and (#2) 6"W x 30"L. The pieces are "blunt cut" that is unfinished/unpolished edges.
My plan is to remove the marble thresholds, scrape as much of the remaining mortar off the walls that I can. Use premixed latex modified thin set to set the bottom horizontal piece and the two vertical pieces - using duct tape to hold them in place until they set (24 Hours) then place the top horizontal piece.
My questions:
1) is this a good plan? do I need to let the bottom and side pieces set before placing the top horizontal piece? or can I install all four pieces at the same time?
2)the edges are unfinished/unpolished. Is there a way for me to every so slightly sand/smooth those edges.
3) After we ordered the Madurai Gold, I thought I read somewhere that this particular granite needs to be sealed. I can't find the source-- does anyone know if this is true?
4) can I use "Enrich and Seal " on the edges to darken and give a slight sheen to the edges?
Any and all suggestions are appreciated!
thanks
peggie
