ceramic tile table top (tabletop)

I'd like to buy a steel dining room table base and matching coffee table base at Room And Board and put a ceramic tile tabletop on them. The links for these bases are at the end of the message.

Note that I am a homeowner and would probably hire a professional to do this. My questions are as follows:

1. Is this a good idea or even feasible. If not why not?

2. What do I need to know to pursue this project?

3. How much in labor & materials do you think this idea would cost.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks for your help.

It's do-able, but I would make sure that the tile base is VERY solid. Elbows on the kitchen table and feet on the coffee table will cause flexing which can eventually loosen the tiles.
