Question Design question: 21 inch tile vs 13 inch tile

We are installing porcelain tile on the first floor of our new house. We like 21" x 21" tiles but are concerned that they are too large for the hallways and bathrooms which are small. Is there a rule of thumb in choosing tile size and/or mixing tile size between tandem rooms and living areas? These tiles also come in 13" x13"

Large format tiles require additional support (a higher deflection rating)
They also are much more work to install properly.
I would not reccomend a large format tile to a DIY er with no experiance.each tile will need to be back buttered and the proper trowel used to set the tile.cleaning joints as you go is critical. Many people believe the larger tile will go in twice as fast.this is Not the case.Large format tile will take 2-3 times as long to install as a 12 x 12.From a design standpoint, either will be fine with some forthought on layout.Waste will be higher with the larger tile

Smile Design question: 21 inch tile vs 13 inch tile

Thanks Todd,

We will be using professional installersr to install the tiles.
We were looking at this from a design only standpoint.

I have done many home improvements, but laying tile should be left to the professional

Thanks again

John
