Cool Porcelain tile wall installation

I am going to install a 4 inch Porcelain tile on the walls of a shower area. I have purchased a "fortified" thin set recommended for wall installations, but I do not see any reference in the discription or instructions on the bag that this is waterproof. Did I buy the wrong stuff? Q-2. I have installed these tiles on floor areas but never on walls. Is there a preference or a right/wrong to where to start your first row? I have been told to start at the top and work down and also to start at the bottom and work up. The bottom is not level and working up, though seems logical, concerns me. any suggestions.... Thanks

Thanks for your response ee3. I dont mind asking dumb questions, they do keep me from making dumb mistakes. I was hoping you could address the rest of my situation too. No replacement for good advice, please continue. I need to be educated more.
