Question which is better

I'm wondering if the green board for around the tub for tile or the hardy board or wonder board is better....and if there is a code to say which one to use. I have heard that green board is required but if that's the case why do you use the hardy board.....and is the hardy board more water resistant than the green board....any suggestions let me know....
Thanks

Greenboard should not be used in the shower, the rest of the walls including above the shower is fine. It's also not rated for ceilings unless you have 12" centers on the ceiling joists, I recommend 5/8" rock for bathroom ceilings, but 1/2" is commonly used in alot of entry to mid-level new homes.

For inside the shower you need to use a backerboard, my preference is durarock, but hardi & wonder board are both acceptable as well.
