what underlayment for new construction?

I am building a home and was hoping to tile a 600 sq ft area myself. I was going to use 1/2" Denshield with Proflex Platinum. My builder says that those products are fine for the remodel job, but in a new construction the tiles will end up popping loose when the house settles and the wood dries out. He says the tiles (17x17 ceramic) should be mudded in?

Is this really the case with new construction?

I live in SE Michigan and the home was roughed during a very cold winter.

No you don't have to mud the floor to do this, but i would'nt use denshield either.I would put durock down for this, per the manufacturers recomendations and a good latex modified thin set
