tile back splash

We are going be installing tiles to our back splash in kitchen. How do we handle putting the outlet faceplates back on when we have the tiles installed?

Is the tile going on a backerboard or are you using mastic on the drywall?

For mastic on drywall, I get longer screws for the switches/receptacles and cut the tile slightly larger than the box opening. When I put the switches/receptacles back, I wrap some electrical tape around the terminal screws and use the longer mounting screws to 'clamp' the mounting ears to the tile. The cover then sits flush to the tile.

If you're using backerboard under the backsplash tile, get 1/2" box extensions for the electrical boxes.
