Talking ceramic over sheet vinyl

Have solid floor, vinyl in good shape guy is trying to go cheap. thinking of going over existing floor. If i screw it down good rough it up and use latex milk in thin set and grout. What do you think can i get away with that? If not what about .175" plywood over sheet vinyl. Or any hints on getting vinyl up easier? 230sq. 12x12s K.King Tile Finisher

There are subfloor requirements that need to be met before you even think about considering putting any thing over this floor.Did you read the sticky at the top of the page?

If you cannot meet the subfloor requirements then walk a way from the job and let thuis guy do it himself,if you dont you're beggin for trouble.

The very least you need to put down is 3/8 c.d.x. plywood but that is based on little info and needs to be looked into further before any kind of semi-educated gues can be made.

What are joist size, space and what is the sub-floor made of?
