Best way to remove grout from tile?

Hi all,

The previous owner who tiled the house did a terrible job with the grout. He didn't clean the tiles properly and there are chunks and spots of grout on the tiles still. Whats the best way for me to get this off without damaging the tile?

Thanks!!!

You can use a utility knife along the edges to get the grout a little smoother and some sort of blunt object like a cold chisel to get the chunks off.The residue that may be left over, and probably would not be a bad idea anyway, you can use sulfamic acid crystals mixed with water to get that off.

Be careful when using anything metal to get the left over grout off cause the metal will leave a black mark(a metal mark)on the tile that will not come off.So go slow and gentle,it wont be easy and will be time consuming but it probably can be cleaned to the point that you could live with it for a while. If the sulfamic acid is not strong eneough then you can use muriatic only as a last resort and heavily diluted use safty glasses and rubber gloves with this stuff it,s pretty nasty also a dust mask or respirator would be even better as the fumes are not conducive to healthy lungs.

So post back and let us know what you come up with or if you have any more questions
