ceramic directly over concrete

I am wondering now that I have removed the four different vinyl floors (that the previous owner had put down in my basement bathroom).....can I put ceramic tiles onto the concrete directly? I assume that I will have to clean and remove any remaining glue first? Any particular cleaner? Also if I want to remove these tiles in the future, then I would have to remove the mortar aswell with some cleaner.............thanks so much!

Scrape as much adhesive off as possible. You will have to use a special thinset for cutback adhesive. Tile can be removed with sledge hammer and chisel. A pneumatic chisel can be used in large areas. If vinyl and adhesive were installed prior to the 1980s there is the chance that both may have contained asbestos.
