ceramice over concrete bath wall

Hi there: One wall from my basement shower is make of concrete cinder blocks (they have been painted before I bought the house). I want to know if I can put ceramic tiles directly onto this wall. When I rub the wall with nail remover, the paint comes off (so I think this means latex paint?). thanks...

Wall tile

Painted walls should be lightly sanded to remove any gloss. Scrape away loose paint. Patch any small irregularities with one of the fillers available for this purpose. If the wall is really rough, it will probably be worth lining it with fiber cement sheeting. To do this, simply plug and screw battens to the wall at intervals recommended by the cement sheet manufacturer. Make sure that each batten is vertical and level by packing behind the batten until your level shows it is level. Then install cement sheeting per manufacturer's instructions.
