New tile vanity top

I am planning to build a new tile vanity top. What is the best material to use as the substrate?

Marine grade plywood would be the best but you can use a good exterior ply.I would suggest 2 layers 5/8 ply glued and screwed together then a layer of 1/4 rock (c.b.u.) screwed and glued as well.
Most sink rail or mud cap that you get will be 2" so the overhang on the edge will be covered or you can use some kind of wood trim around the edges whichever you prefer but make sure it is sealed real good (the wood)so it does'nt warp or rot out
