lay ceramic over mosaic tile?

I am totally new to this stuff, but I'm really not sure my contractor is giving me correct info. I have a bathroom floor with original tile from 1968. Floor is very smooth, flat and in very good shape - just ugly. It has small mosaic tile, designed to look like various stone sizes (reminds me of the Flintstones) and it's turquoise! The surface is so smooth, I actually though it was vinyl until I felt it and saw it was tile. Contractor says he can install new tile directly over that floor... no need to remove existing tile. Does that sound right to you guys?

As long as it's in good shape with no cracks, loose tile, and raisng the floor 3/8" wont be an issue for you, he is correct. He must first make sure the surface of the tile a grout are compl;etely free of anything that would inhibit the bond, such as cleaner build ups, hair spray, etc, etc.
