Smile Backerboard over damaged green rock

I'm refinishing my guest bath and in removing the old tiles from around the tub, the green rock board behind has had the paper severely damaged. I was going to apply concrete backerboard using a layer of thinset and screws. Do I have to patch the paper on the old green rock before I add the concrete backerboard? Also, with the green rock in place, can I use 1/4" concrete board over it to reduce the additional width?

What type of moisture barrier? I read somewhere else to line the studs with #16 roofing paper? Is that adequate? What about a drip pan in the bottom?
