Porcelain is more dense, making it harder. It would stand up better to kitchen abuse, like table chairs sliding over it in an eat-in-kitchen, things like that. Some are glazed some are not. All ceramic floor tile for use in a kitchen is glazed. The body of a ceramic can be softer and more prone to a cut mark from a scratch.
