I had previously asked opinions on pre-mixed grout, because I didn't like the results of using it on a bathroom floor job. A buddy was considering it on his kitchen floor, so I didn't want him to have the same results. I'm glad I asked you guys. For a lack of better words, I find the premixed stuff to be horrible (duh - like the advice I received here). I thought the bathroom was due to my inexperience grouting, but we used the regular stuff on his kitchen with great success. The folks at HD pushed the premix stuff...my first mistake. They said it was less hassel for the same results. Wrong - It dries quickly after applied and leaves a thick, hard haze immediately. Sponging is almost worthless. I found myself using a scraper more than a sponge, and you can never get lines looking as nice as with regular grout. I tried some touch ups after gaining experience with the kitchen job; same results. Anyway, lesson learned. Follow the excellent advice given on this forum.

We are intersted in tileing our old counter top. Here is a rough plan: Put down 1/4 inch backer board over the existing formica. Cut out for the sink. Tile Use oak for front edge instead of using bullnose. Any advice ? :)
