Shower pan:conflicting views
After looking at posts here it seems steps in order:
1 Put down sloped to drain mud base
2 Install membrane and drain
3 Fill membrane with mortar sloped to drain
4 Then tile
The reason I'm asking is I just bought a HD book Tiling 1-2-3 that shows membrane being put on subfloor with no slope. No wonder this forum gets so many Questions!

The way that book shows it is the old way, you know, "the way we always did it".
The reason for the preslope is that water will get through the grout and cement under the tile and down to the membrane. If the membrane is not sloped the water will sit in the pan with no inertia to move toward the drain. Just as the tile on top are sloped so no standing water remains on the surface, so too, the preslope evacuates the water from under the tile. You just have to ensure that the weepholes remain unclogged so the water can run out once it reaches the drain.

I looked at a lot of shower pan/drain options, this systems seems rather complete and idiot proof. The pan is pre sloped in high density styrofoam and there is a vapour barrier and drain system associated with it that can be put in without mucking around with mudding. This system really works.... here is web link. Home Depot should carry this product, if not check local tiling supply distributers.
