Hardie backer over masonry wall install - how to?
hanging 1/2" followed by 1/4" hardie backer (to match furred out 1/2" gwb above) on masony wall with 1/4" deep raked joints in shower surround .
i followed a friends advice and used the heavy duty liquid nails with 1-1/4" masonry cut nails for the first 1/2" sheet. problem is it's not pulling the sheet tight to the wall in areas.
from what i've gathered in other hardie backer posts i may need to thinset it against the masonry wall. it that correct? then cut nail it? or should i use a different fastener...?
thanks in advance.

You shouldn't be doing this at all!
Don't expect those walls to stay in place for very long (as you have already found out) without having many expensive problems in the near future. It is never adviseable to install CBU's directly to masonry and there is no practical way to do it.
You need a new plan.

so what - is thick setting the tile the only option to get it out in front of the gwb above...?

CBU is a "cementuous backer unit" or
CEMENT BOARD:
Such as; HARDIBACKER, DUROCK, WONDERBOARD, PERMABASE, ETC.
Now you've lost me, what the heck is "gwb"? OK I deserved that!
And who said anything about "thick setting the tile"? What does that mean?
