Help. Removing Vinyl Tiles to put on Ceramic Tiles

Help. I have removed the vinyl floor tiles and am now left with trying to remove the black glue underneath along with what I think is some sort of floor levelor in which it is on cement. Does anybody know a fast and efficient way of removing this. I tried a hot gun and I also tried hot water but it will take me forever. I appreciate any suggestions.

Were those 9" tile removed?, that black adhesive is probably cutback and contains asbestos, don't sand or grind this stuff yet, are you sure about a leveler used before it was set over the slab?

I am sure it is a levelor and the adhesive I am sure is not asbestos.

Replicating a Ceramic Tile Installation

About 10 years ago we remodeled our Kitchen and want exactly the same counter top for our new home. Color Tile is where we bought the product initially and the whole job wasn't very expensive with installation. But Color Tile is no longer doing business in Maine. I don't even know where to start looking, I checked out the tiles at HD but they were incredibly expensive and they didn't have what we were looking for. What we used was actually floor tile but it worked great for us and we would do again exactly the same. Any ideas. I haven't figured out how to post a picture but here is a link to a picture. The tiles are basically 8" square but the connors are cut off to allow for the diamonds. I guess I have 3 questions. Where would I look for the tiles? How difficult is it to install? How would you go about finding someone to do it for a reasonable price. When we had it done before the store had a contractor, that really knew what he was doing. Tiling around a toilet.

Hello all, I did read a thread in this forum regarding my subject, but I am still a tad bit confused. Do I tile around a toilet, just up to the base of the toilet? Or do I bring the tile all the way up to the toilet ring? I noticed after I scraped up the lenolium, that the concrete kind of looks like a small ant hill going up to the toilet ring. Is this normal or should the floor be level to the base of the toilet ring? This is where I am really confused. If I tile around the "ant hill" then I do believe it would eventually crack. My wife may be right on, she says tile up to the base of the toilet. The reason I am tiling is that my lenolium had mold marks under it, spreading from the toilet on out. So I figured that the toilet wasn't seated correctly. When I removed the toilet, some wax was missing from toilet ring. Hope this question makes sense. Thank you.Read More
