Question ceramic tile

1. In tiling a foyer (7'x8') and a small hall way(8' long 3 'wide), which is best to use 6" or 12 " tiles.
2. I'm not real sure what a "Z" bar is, I will be transisting to burber carpet,and to vinyl is that what I need, and do I set in the mortar or place after when carpet is lay?

6 or 12, depends on the look you want. Obviously more grout lines with the 6. Or you could mix the two together, like doing a border around each room of 12s and put the 6s inside that.
Z bar is the old zinc divider strip, still see it around with terrazzo but other companies have gotten fancier with their shapes, like Schluter. Anyway, put the bar in the thinset under the edge of the last tiles that transition to other flooring.
