Removing old tile
#1

I would like to replace ugly old ceramic tile in my entryway. Because I don't have enough clearance to put new tile over the old and still open my door, I need to remove the old. Anyone have any suggestions as to how doable this is? Luckily, its not a very big area (5'x6'). I can remove an edge metal piece and this will allow me access to the edge of the tile.

Hi Karenrunge,
Simply put, the project seems quite do-able. So far as removing the existing tile, I would start with a hammer and chisel to open a spot, then move on up to a flat shovel {I personnally use a roofing shovel} to remove the tile at a much faster pace. Please be forewarned, this is quite the messy little operation, but once completed is well worth the effort. If the "edge metal piece" of which you refer is a threshold, you may get the opportunity to even skip the hammer and chisel phase. Hope this helps, and any more questions, please just ask!
