Updating cultured marble

I have cultured marble counter top in a powder room and would like to refinish the surface somehow to update the style. Any suggestion on products or techniques that may provide an attractive, resilient surface? Many Thanks!

Shower wall tile: Paper, wire, morter vs cement board

I am installing marble tile in a shower wall. I have conflicting opinions. I live in Southern California, which experiences regular earthquakes. Regarding wall preparation: It has been suggested that waterproof paper, wire mesh and a cement float be used to prepare for the tile, with paper and wire nailed directly to the studs (new construction). It has also been suggested that I first install either green board, cement board or even plywood to improve the "earthquake resistance" of the installation. Any comments / suggestions? Thank you.
