Grout area againt tub

Another quick question, once the grout is layed over the porcelain tile there will be a a grout line against the tub , is there any special considerations for the grout other then sealing it or is there somthing I should do prior. Thanks

No grout there, this joint get's caulked with a matching color to the grout.

Wow, Im glad I posted that question, Another lesson leraned, I guess I could get that colored caulking at a Tile supplier/store?? Any suggested brand would be great.

I use Tec grout, they have a matching color caulk for all there grouts, sold at the tile showroom I deal with.

Most grout manufacturers have a matching color to their grouts also.

Most are made by color caulk for all the manufacturers, I think.

Preparing Floor for Ceramic Tile Installation

I removed the original floor in my Kitchen (a glued down square 12x12 tile floor) in preparation to install ceramic tile flooring. The house was built about 10 years ago on a concrete slab and this was the original floor. Once I pulled up the old tile floor, what remains is a very thin layer of sticky glue on the concrete (not enough to create a leveling problem). My question is Can I lay the new ceramic tile floor on top of the concrete with this thin film of glue? Or do I need to do further preparation? The store I purchased the ceramic tile floor from seems to think that it is ok. Thanks, JohnRead More

Tub/Hardibacker Gap

I'm remodeling my bathroom but have no experience at all in doing so. My father came last week to help me take out a ceiling that had been built down to the top of an enclosed shower and recreate the shower so the ceiling is at the same level as the rest of the bathroom. I tore out the old shower surround, and before he left, he helped me install hardibacker in the shower so I can tile it. I left the old tub in place and it is not level. At the lowest point the hardibacker is almost an inch away from the top of the tub. Also, because there were some irregularities that resulted from tearing out the old structure, I had to use joint compound to make the wall that vertically abuts the hardibacker smooth. In places the joint compound extends several inches over the hardibacker. First, what do I do about the large gap between tub and hardibacker? I have six inch tile for the shower walls. Can I install the tile and let it extends slightly over the edge of the hardibacker within 1/8 or 1/4 of the tub and seal the seam with caulk? Second, will the joint compound interfere with the adhesion of the thin set? Lastly, I noticed the thread about leaving no space between the wall and the hardibacker. I will also be tiling the floor and in places there is a gap larger than 1/4 inch between the hardibacker and the wall. I thought that the combination of grout and molding would hide it, but are there other issues I should consider?
