Cement Backerboard
#1

I filled the joints of the cement backerboard that I put up above my bathtub with grout. Is this okay? If not should I remove it and refill the joints with adhesive or something else? Do I need to seal the backerboard before I lay my tiles? Is a waterproof cement paint okay for a sealer? If not what do you recommend? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cement backerboard does not require to be sealed and you should not fill the joint with anything. What you need to do is make sure that the board is up off the tub by 1/4" and that it's face is on the inside. The board should be attached to the wall with a rust resistant fastener and the joints should be taped with a fiberglass tape. One thing to make sure that when you have it attached to the wall that it has very little deflection I believe it's 1/360 and that's not a lot.
