We are planning to redo the ceramic floor tile in our bathroom, and I was wondering whether ceramic tile can be laid over existing ceramic tile? The existing tiles are not cracking or rotted. We are replacing them because the color is dated (The wall tile is brown and the floor is peach and black - ugh).

If we do need to rip out the existing tile, do we also need to replace the plywood below, or can we use the existing plywood? I've never done a project like this, and I don't know how much damage the plywood would get from prying the tiles off.

Thanks!!

You can lay the new tiles over the old as long as there not cracked or loose. If the old tiles are glossed you should scuff them with heavy grit sandpaper and then use a flexable thinset such as FULLFLEX sold at tile stores.
