Ceramic tile over vinyl floor, over cement floor?

My husband and I plan to lay ceramic tile in our foyer and bathroom area. Currently there is vinyl flooring over a cement floor. Do we have to pull up the vinyl flooring, Or can we just go on top of that? If so, is there any preparation for putting the ceramic tile on the cement floor? Thanks

You need to rip up the vinyl and as much of the glue as possible. If you don't the tiles will crack.

I have been told that it is acceptable to lay ceramic tile over vinyl flooring over concrete provided that the vinyl is well secured to the concrete. I guess it depends on who you want to listen too as well.
