Tile Backsplash Before Or After Countertop?

I am in the process of remodelling my entire kitchen - floor, cabinets, countertops, etc. My question is, since I have the option, do you tile the backsplash before or after installing the solid surface countertop? It will have a 3" upswept back on it, in case that helps. Thanks!
