Question

Need help! We have 50yr old original 3/4" oak tiles over cement foundation...Can we install ceramic tile over top of these wood tiles without having to remove them first or will we need some sort of cement board or something else over them. Or, is our only option going to be to remove all these wood tiles first? We have been told the adhesive used to lay these floors probably has asbestos in it and we're not anxious to have to remove them.

Thumbs up

You should place a product such as Wonderboard or Durock to the wood floor first. Use screws every 8"O.C. on edges and 12" O.C. on field, also I use about half a tube of construction adhesive to each sheet. This will be the diference between a 5 year and a 50 year floor.
