Tile size in a Shower

I'm remodeling our house and have added a new bathroom. We would like to put large tile on the wall and floor of the shower. What would be the maximum size tile that we could put on the wall? on the floor? The tile on the bathroom floor outside the shower will be 12"x12".

The shower is 40" by 56". We'd also like to continue the wall tile out of the shower onto some of the bathroom walls.

I have done a wall with 13x20" tile, thats pretty big. The normal is about 8x10". Go with whatever you like the look of, but use modified thinset not mastic to adhere those big tiles to the wall.

On the shower floor you should not go bigger than 2x2" in order to follow the contour of the slope to the drain. Only if your tile setter is experienced in making a slope to accept a bigger tile should you consider that route.
