backsplash ceramic tiles and drywall

Hi everyone,

I would like to install a backsplash ceramic tile near my oven. However, I painted the drywall last year. How do I prep the drywall? Is there a special cement and grout I need to buy at Home Depot?

Any responses will be greatly appreciated!

If it's real glossy, you might take some sandpaper to the paint a little bit.

Use Versabond thinset from HD to set the tiles.

removing dried cements in ceramic tiles

I'm new to ceramic tiling. I told my friend that I will be installing ceramic however, I was having a hardtime removing the sheet vinyl. He told me that he placed his ceramic tiles on top of the vinyl. I became happy because I will never need to remove the vinyl. I installed the ceramic and am having problems after I installed it. Some grouts are cracking! :( What I would like to do is remove the ceramic tiles again and retry removing the vinyl sheet using torch. I got the torch tip from a friend and I told my neighbor about it and it helped him a lot too. Before, my neighbor was using hair blower! LOL! My question is, assuming I was able to take care of the ceramic tiles I have removed without damaged, how will I be able to easily remove the cement in the tiles? Is there any liquid product that I can buy which will loosen or dissolve it? This way, I can just use chisel or 6" thin flat metal to remove the cements. Thanks in advance!Read More
