Staining limestone

I had my fireplace redone, new face and hearth stone. The problem is the hearth stone doesn't match the new face or the tile by the fireplace. The installer thought I could just stain it. The hearth stone is cut from a local quarry so you get what you get. It just doesn't match. Anyone ever hear of using wood stain on limestone?

Thanks

Boomer

I wouldn't. That stain will penetrate so if you dont like the change of color, oh well, too late. Go back to the local quarry and ask them if anything can be done to change the color.

I did it!!! I stained the limestone and it looks great. I think luck has a lot to do with it. I got a small piece of limestone from the quarry and tried some different stains to get one that matched and it worked.

staining hearth stone ?

Boomer,
What staining product did you use? Was the coloring consistent across the hearth? What method did you use to apply the stain? Did you seal it after staining it?
Thanks!
