tiling a wall?

I am also tiling a wall in my bathroom where my vanity will go.........I am starting where a border is (about six feet up on the wall) and I am tiling down the wall. Since my vanity will be taking up a good size space and can only go in this one place, do I have to tile all the way down to the floor for strength in the tiles? or can I stop where the vanity will be covering the space. If I stop tiling before reaching the floor, I am wondering if the tiles will loosen?
thank you........

Temporary nail a 1x2 with the nails sticking out so you can pull them later to get the board off the wall. Then the tile will sit on it without sagging
