Floor Prep

I just ripped up the linoleum (sp?) floor in my kitchen and will tile it this weekend. When i took up the floor I noticed that the concrete sub floor seemed wet (slightly). It dried within minutes of being exposed to the air. I dont know if I have a moisture problem or if it was the chemical used when putting it down...but my question is if thin set is a moisture barrior? If not, what should I use. (or do i need one for tile)

btw... i just read the post regarding the asbestos warning. there was a black residue. guess i shoulda worn a mask....

Any cracks in the slab?, Use a good modified thinset, such as Flexbond from HD for going over cutback adhesive, if this is what is there, try hot water and see if it softens up and scrape it, don't sand it.

tiling a wall?

I am also tiling a wall in my bathroom where my vanity will go.........I am starting where a border is (about six feet up on the wall) and I am tiling down the wall. Since my vanity will be taking up a good size space and can only go in this one place, do I have to tile all the way down to the floor for strength in the tiles? or can I stop where the vanity will be covering the space. If I stop tiling before reaching the floor, I am wondering if the tiles will loosen? thank you........

We going to lay porcelain tile using hardibacker over two layers of existing layers of 5/8 plywood.The plywood is butted tight at the joints.My husband wants to trim out the edges of the plywood joints with a circular saw and fill them with caulk-is this a good idea or even necessary?Should the joints instead be filled with thinset when putting down the cement board?Thanks in advance.
