tileman, I gather from previous threads that you like kerdi but not installed over drywall? ( that seems to be their demonstrated application ) what underlayment do you like if kerdi would be used? I guess dens is also out. I am doing a shower tub area and trying to come to a decision on underlayment for walls. Ceiling will not be tiled but am leary of drywall myself. any thoughts or sights i can visit? thanks :coffee:

Greetings from Texas. I'm currently in the process of updating a house that was built in the 80s. I would like to lay slate, but because of budget restraints, I can only purchase 12x12 tiles. I am however very interested in laying them in a versaille pattern. I would cut the 12x12s into 12x6s and 6x6s and lay them along the lines of these: [url]http://ask4travertine.com/ask4/Page43.html[/url] [url]http://ask4travertine.com/ask4/Page42.html[/url] I was wondering a couple of things. - Can this look good starting with 12x12s as the largest tiles? - Anyone have picture of the application? - Any recommendations from experiences? - Is this pattern suppose to be repeating or random? Possibly either? - If it's suppose to be a pattern, does anyone have one? If it matters, I will be doing about 850 sq ft. Thanks in advance for any helpful comments or recommendations.
